Deir ez-Zor insurgency (2019)
The Deir ez-Zor insurgency (2019) is an armed insurgency being waged by anti-Syrian government insurgents in government-held parts of Deir ez-Zor province.
On 28 March 2019, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham claimed responsibility for an attack against pro-government forces belonging to the 4th brigade in the Deir ez-Zor Governorate that reportedly left a number of pro-government fighters dead. This also marked the first time since 2014 that al-Nusra has had a presence in the area. Two days later, a Free Syrian Army-aligned insurgent group was established called "The Revolutionaries in the land of Deir Ez-Zor". The group announced its establishment on twitter and released a statement as well, claiming to have killed 9 pro-government forces and injuring 5 others in the neighborhoods of Hawiqa and Harabesh in the city of Deir ez-Zor.
On 12 April, the Revolutionaries in the Land of Deir ez-Zor claimed to have killed a Syrian Army colonel named Ali Samir al-Jeeb on the Deir ez-Zor-Damascus highway. Three days later, they also claimed to have killed a Brigadier General, a Major and a 1st Lieutenant from the Syrian Army, as well as wounding dozens others.
